A full-fledged camera it's not

My 35mm camera and lenses came along to Saturday night's (Nov. 3, 2007) Bon Jovi concert at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ, but it never left our car. Security would not allow standard cameras inside -- only pocket-sized digitals -- so I was relegated to taking pictures using my cell phone.

Free Software: Seam Carving

Recently, there has been a lot of buzz about a new image resizing technology called Seam Carving.

Read on if you want to know more about it and try it for yourself using Resizor, a software I wrote (available for free).

Update (Dec 2007): An update is now available which makes the seam carving process about twice as fast.

Digital Photography Lighting Tips (for novices)

If you need digital photographs of your products for eBay, pictures of an engine part for a user manual, or pictures of heirlooms for an insurance company, a simple studio lighting setup will make the pictures better. You can eliminate flash glare and background clutter at the same time you improve the photograph’s detail. Yes, you can edit images later, but good lighting and backgrounds saves time.
