I love the hovering preview. Thanks!

2. posted by bury-osiol, Jan 4, 2008 9:26 PM

It would be great if each user could set whether they want or do not want hovering previews to be displayed, or if those previews show up after 3 seconds or something like this.
It might be very useful, but for me, it's rather annoying and makes browsing the site slightly difficult...

3. posted by admin, Jan 4, 2008 10:19 PM

It's one of the features that can be really annoying at first but you'll get so used to it you will wonder how you lived without it...

4. posted by fishmonk, Jan 5, 2008 12:18 AM

Love the hovering preview!

Any news on what's happening with the Ratings?

5. posted by admin, Jan 5, 2008 12:26 AM

I'm going to get rid of ratings for the time being... They are a constant source of problems. I think we should encourage comments and more feedback from downloaders instead, that's more rewarding and there's a lot less room for cheating. I'm also planning to add some new top lists so don't worry about the ratings :)

6. posted by madster, Jan 5, 2008 12:39 AM

I, too, would respectfully request that you make the preview OPTIONAL, with an on/off button. I cannot see the previews AT ALL, probably due to the firewall, although I have NO problems with SXC besides that.

SO, the irritation factor of that ugly gray box popping up when I am merely scrolling down the page with my mouse near pictures, goes up exponentially...

The old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it, is quite appropos, here. Any "improvements" that are "eye candy," rather than basic functionality NEED the option to turn them off for the people to whom they not only offer NO improvement in functionality, but actually LESSEN the functionality of the site.

It's a cute hack, but it is not fully functional across the board. There is NO "getting used to" something that doesn't work for everyone, if you are one of those for whom it does not work. PLEASE either make that ugly gray pop up box optional for registered members, or just get rid of it until the bugs are worked out...PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE!!!

7. posted by admin, Jan 5, 2008 1:35 AM

What browser / operating system are you using?

8. posted by admin, Jan 5, 2008 1:47 AM

By the way I have to add that this is not a "cute hack", this feature is pretty much a standard on stock sites because it saves tons of time for people and tons of resources since you don't have to load an extra page just to see a bigger preview. We have it on Stockxpert as well and no one has ever complained about it. People were requesting it actually.

If it's a browser issue I will fix it, but if your computer is broken there's not much I can do.

9. posted by crisderaud, Jan 5, 2008 2:35 AM

The fact that the hovering preview improves the sites resource usage is in itself reason to incorporate it. This should make the site faster and more responsive since more bandwidth will be available.

10. posted by izzarian, Jan 5, 2008 8:33 AM

Congrats on the the new improved sxc, just one question though, I tried to download an image and I was given an error message telling me I'm not allowed to download the image, and there were no permission requests. The image in question is Photo #869467.

Cheers and thanks for your great website.

11. posted by izzarian, Jan 5, 2008 8:35 AM

I forgot to say that I wasn't even allowed to comment, I wrote a comment but when I hit Enter it didn't post it !!

I love the hovering preview. Thanks for adding it! (^_^)

13. posted by porah, Jan 5, 2008 10:32 AM

I am very happy with the improved site. It is good that it's working properly and I love the hovering preview images. That is very useful, great idea! I've always adored the simplicity and the lightness of this website. Very friendly! :)

14. posted by MiRi64, Jan 5, 2008 10:53 AM

Congrats on the facelifting, Peter, I see a lot of improvements already, and you have just started and I'm curious about what is still to come. I suppose, all thos changes would justify a new version number -> SXC VII?

One small Idea from me: How about allowing more keywords to be shown?

15. posted by CraigPJ, Jan 5, 2008 2:54 PM

Love the changes, although with over 1000 photos the Bulk editor page takes a while to load (actually only about 15 seconds).

Please could you enable the SXC Briefcase/ftp uploading, or else some other form of bulk uploader as found on several microstock sites.

Thanks again.

16. posted by admin, Jan 5, 2008 2:54 PM

I think that image has just been removed, I'll look into it.

17. posted by fishmonk, Jan 5, 2008 3:08 PM

I believe having the hovering preview will affect DLs of many photos.
As a timesaver it is useful for skipping over images which may before have elicited a DL just to see some detail not clear in smaller size.
It will also give a more truer picture of which images are being used rather than merely viewed.
No value judgement - merely comment.
Can't wait to see what's coming next!

18. posted by admin, Jan 5, 2008 3:08 PM

I'm plannig to enable FTP. :)
As for too many files, since the bulk editor is based on folders you can try orgainzing pics into several folders, that might help.

The current limit is 20, I think that should be enough... People should put more keywords to their pics though :)

19. posted by fishmonk, Jan 5, 2008 6:18 PM

I've just discovered & Love the cascading menus!!!

20. posted by iikozen, Jan 5, 2008 9:31 PM

Well done #1!!!

21. posted by dlritter, Jan 5, 2008 9:40 PM

@17 It looks like the hovering preview image is the mid-size image from the that you would see on the photo's information page. If people are downloading photos to get a better look at details the hovering preview won't give them any more detail.

The preview will reduce some of the load on the servers as the entire mid-size photo page does not need to be loaded just to have a slightly better look at an image.

22. posted by slonecker, Jan 5, 2008 10:57 PM

Nice features, though it will take a little bit of time to get used to the new interface.

Glad ratings are disabled. Perhaps you can now stomp on the concept until it is completely dead. This issue is easily the most contentious on the site and accounts for more posts than any other issue. BTW, when you stomp it wear heavy boots with steel soles.

23. posted by bjearwicke, Jan 6, 2008 1:08 AM

Great new features! I love the hover feature. Thanks!

24. posted by modish, Jan 6, 2008 1:53 AM

after the updates of sxc i do not find, how can i rate the images. can anybody tell me??

25. posted by CraigPJ, Jan 6, 2008 5:19 AM

@24 Ratings are no more.

26. posted by xymonau, Jan 6, 2008 8:48 AM

So the highest rated category will have to go. Well, I don't think I'll miss all the nastiness. People will have to comment, instead. And the comments can be removed.

27. posted by Flycatcher, Jan 6, 2008 10:49 AM

The new hovering preview is a very useful feature - thank you. I do however sympathise with those, hopefully few, who are experiencing problems with it. A grey box instead must be very annoying. So I add my support to the pleas for making it optional. But for the rest of us, it's very quick and certainly more convenient than the old method of opening a new browser tab for a closer look before deciding to download.

28. posted by creativei, Jan 6, 2008 10:53 AM

The hover effect is useful at the same time annoying, but its useful. Why dont you guys use ftp uploads as well so we can uploads more images, hope you will include this soon.

29. posted by MiRi64, Jan 6, 2008 4:49 PM

On the gallery-pages where no more ratings are shown, would it be possible to use the additional space to display the full number of downloads > 1K?

We wouldn't need to click on the image-page to see the exact number of DLs.

30. posted by mzacha, Jan 6, 2008 5:19 PM

When I switch to MyPhotos and than Photos, I do not receive my gallery :(.

31. posted by gadd, Jan 6, 2008 5:52 PM

Could you help pe and explain, what is briefcase and what is lightbox? Thanks a lot!

32. posted by admin, Jan 6, 2008 5:56 PM

The lightbox is where you can store your favourite pictures (see Browse / My page) and the briefcase is for photographers, they will be able transfer photos from FTP with it. The briefcase will probably be renamed soon because it's confusing.

33. posted by scol22, Jan 6, 2008 9:08 PM

I think there is also a second little glitch similar to the one mzacha reported:
in the cascading menu, My account - Profile leads to the Edit profile page and not the View profile.

I absolutely adore all the great improvements you made to the site so far. Thank you so much!

34. posted by clix, Jan 6, 2008 9:10 PM

congrats my friends!! i love the new SXC!!! hugs to all !!! thanks!!

35. posted by mjio, Jan 6, 2008 11:00 PM

And comments are a lot better than ratings.

36. posted by CraigPJ, Jan 6, 2008 11:18 PM

37. posted by CraigPJ, Jan 6, 2008 11:22 PM

Love the RSS!! :)

38. posted by CraigPJ, Jan 6, 2008 11:39 PM

I see that there is now a link to "Add/Fix" next to keywords and categories. Currently it just goes back to the home page. Is this link a sign that you may be implementing the ability to add/fix keywords to other people's photos. I think this would be great, as long (as it is not anarchic ;) )

39. posted by admin, Jan 6, 2008 11:42 PM

That's correct :)

40. posted by bigvillage, Jan 6, 2008 11:47 PM

A great site just got better. The only thing is that I'd like to be able to turn off the hover function.

41. posted by sumnix, Jan 6, 2008 11:50 PM

i like every improvements besides unusual hovering previews

42. posted by admin, Jan 6, 2008 11:53 PM

43. posted by fishmonk, Jan 7, 2008 12:48 AM

Love RSS - thanks!

Like the new comments layout!

44. posted by MiRi64, Jan 7, 2008 6:07 AM

I would vote for the cascading menus to open on the right side. Currently it's hard to see, which is the main menu and what belongs to the sub-menus.

On the myphotos-page there is still a Ratings-Column to get rid of :)

45. posted by sumnix, Jan 7, 2008 7:45 AM

i have found an error! rss on my comments does not work properly, so when i click on some rss-item i get wrong page of another author.

46. posted by marmit, Jan 7, 2008 8:05 AM

Same happens to me (rss error - links to someone elses photo)

47. posted by marmit, Jan 7, 2008 8:47 AM

Great changes to the site and at an impressing pace!

Two more suggestions:

You mentioned new stats coming up. Here is a suggestion (from a previous forum topic which may be used if the rating function is dropped:

-Ratio of number of comments per download (Maybe excluding pictures with downloads less than - say 50)

The Forum search function is great, why not extend the search field also to include forum post author (member ID). Right now it seems the search is only in the forum entry text.

48. posted by marmit, Jan 7, 2008 8:54 AM

. . . and yet another suggestion:

Under Browse/user it would be great to be able to sort not only by no. of photos and login, but also by no. of downloads, and possible no. of comments.

49. posted by izzarian, Jan 7, 2008 9:00 AM

Thanks Peter.

50. posted by prophets, Jan 7, 2008 12:22 PM

The Hovering preview is awesome, I've been hoping you would add this for a long time. Yay my wish came true :p

51. posted by admin, Jan 7, 2008 2:15 PM

I'll look into the RSS bug.

52. posted by Sarej, Jan 7, 2008 3:05 PM

good job admin rulez :) santa lives ;p

53. posted by scol22, Jan 7, 2008 4:42 PM

If i may make a suggestion too, one category i would like to see in the statistics page, would be something like "rate of download" or something similar: the number of downloads, divided by an amount of time (days or months since upload). I'm thinking about pictures like xymonau's christmas tree, which had thousands of downloads in a few days and now has 13k+ in a little more than a month.

Also this would give a chance to new users and new pictures to shine in the statistics. Since i've been a member (less than a year), there's been very little change in the statistics, because these (amazing) pictures have often been here for much longer (top 20 downloads all have been here for 2-3+ years). So a new category taking into account the duration of the picture on sxc would make it more dynamic, i think.

I have no idea if it is technically feasible, though...

54. posted by palidin55, Jan 7, 2008 5:55 PM

With the facelift will we be able to upload different formats of files? I started a blog about vector artwork and just wondering if that is in the workings. I love the other updates though!

55. posted by admin, Jan 7, 2008 6:14 PM

We'll have something along those lines... Currently popular or something like that... :)

Vectors are a pain to work with (it takes a lot of time to inspect them etc) so I can't confirm that now. It's being considered.

56. posted by palidin55, Jan 7, 2008 6:56 PM

Wonderful, I completely understand I could see how you could really get a lot of junk with eps or ai files! Thanks for the response.

Also png's would be great so we could have transparent backgrounds.

57. posted by sumnix, Jan 7, 2008 7:00 PM

many thanks, now rss is working correctly

58. posted by crisderaud, Jan 7, 2008 8:07 PM

Life has improved on this site in the last couple of days. Thanks for the changes..:))

It will be interesting to see how it evolves from here.

59. posted by mzacha, Jan 8, 2008 7:36 AM

Thanks for help, mr. admin :)

I have another problem - I cannot see the biggest version of my photos uploaded, but not approved. In the previous version of the site I could do that.

60. posted by mindfreak, Jan 8, 2008 1:20 PM

Great new features - however i must admit that what i would like to see not on the list.

Better upload capabilities..bulk tool would also be cool.

And better performance..dunno have many times i've experianced time out on uploads because of large picture sizes.

But..can't complaint really.. Sxc is still the best service of its kind..despite it's limited flaws :)

61. posted by mindfreak, Jan 8, 2008 1:23 PM

This one:

+ Image type "graphics" added to
uploader, editors and adv. search

ty ty ty ty ty :)

62. posted by admin, Jan 8, 2008 2:06 PM

You will be able to use the FTP soon. At this point I'm not sure about external software...

63. posted by mindfreak, Jan 8, 2008 4:02 PM

COOL - If i can use the ftp - it shouldnt be a large problem writing a small piece of software to handle it :)

64. posted by eaganj, Jan 8, 2008 11:24 PM

Love the facelift! I've been hoping you'd include the hovering preview thing for quite a while now.

One question, though: I'm seeing more and more 'vector' images, even though in reality they're rasterized jpegs. Will you be adding functionality to be able to download actual vector files (i.e. Illustrator, .eps, Freehand)?

65. posted by admin, Jan 8, 2008 11:35 PM

Pleaase see @56 :)

66. posted by eaganj, Jan 8, 2008 11:37 PM

Aha. Didn't see that one. Thanks.

67. posted by fishmonk, Jan 8, 2008 11:50 PM

@54 - I love that idea - is something like that feasible?

68. posted by admin, Jan 9, 2008 12:00 AM

Yes I'm thinking about some real time popularity based category which would be something like that...

69. posted by quasipickl, Jan 9, 2008 10:49 PM

I'd love to see the category pulldown reflect which category you're currently viewing, ie: if I'm looking at Architecture::Abstract, that category would be selected in the pulldown.

70. posted by tedbragg, Jan 9, 2008 11:40 PM

Just make this site faster, that's my only request. Everything else is gravy.

It takes up to 2 minutes to just get the beginnings of pages to appear. Five minutes for images to show up, and I'm on 1.5mbps DSL.

iStock is just as slow, so it must be the huge traffic and database thingies...

71. posted by dynamix, Jan 9, 2008 11:41 PM

Great additions so far!

But when did you remove the ability to review your own pending photographs? Only being able to see the 10px preview and accompanying hover thumb is a bit frustrating. Any chance of bringing back this functionality?

72. posted by admin, Jan 10, 2008 12:33 AM

It's probably your line... The site is pretty slow, but definitely not THAT slow. I've used it from Japan amd USA before and the speed is about the same as it is from Hungary. At peak times you may experience timeouts though because the network connections are maxed out.

That is not intentional, you'll be able to check your pics again soon. :)

73. posted by dynamix, Jan 10, 2008 4:04 PM

Great, thought it might just be a bug. I'm a web developer by day.. PHP/MySQL/JS.. if you need a helping hand with anything don't hesitate to yell, this is a fabulous resource and any assistance I can provide in improving it, I'm happy to give.

I'm in the states and although a tad slow at times, I don't find SXC painfully slower than any other stock photo site.

74. posted by sundstrom, Jan 10, 2008 9:56 PM

Daily downloads has gone down drastically for me probably because of the hoovering pics as discussed above. Anyone else that could comment on their daily downloads?

75. posted by admin, Jan 10, 2008 10:48 PM

Thanks for the offer! :)

Could be also that January is the slowest month every year...

76. posted by dynamix, Jan 11, 2008 12:28 AM

@75 My downloads too have dropped off quite a bit this month, not sure if it's anything to do with the updates.

77. posted by admin, Jan 11, 2008 1:33 AM

OK I found a download related bug, it doesn't happen all the time so I'm not sure what's causing it but I'm gonna fix it tomorrow!

78. posted by crisderaud, Jan 11, 2008 4:34 PM

I like the extra "random choices" for on the browse page. You doubled the fun:)

79. posted by crisderaud, Jan 11, 2008 5:42 PM

It appears the download counter is malfunctioning. I don't believe the amount of downloads has reduced, but instead believe that the crediting function is hanging up.

This is a SWAG opinion on my part.

80. posted by admin, Jan 11, 2008 6:55 PM

I fixed the download count bug... Should be working now! :)

81. posted by bosela, Jan 11, 2008 8:44 PM

Thanks for many great upgrades!

I would recommend that you consider displaying a count of the number of "views" accumulated for various forum threads in addition to the number of posts. It would be nice to have an idea of how many people are engaged in various threads as opposed to the number who become actively engaged.

Not sure if you have considered and rejected the idea: but it would be a real benefit if you added forums to your drop-down search list. I would love to be able to search the forums for earlier discussions containing various key words and find postings made by a particular user.

82. posted by admin, Jan 11, 2008 9:02 PM

You can already search the forums but I haven't added that option to the dropdown yet.

As for views, it's a bit late to start that... I'll think about it but maybe it will be in the background for a while because it would be disappointing to see nothing but 0's :)

83. posted by crisderaud, Jan 11, 2008 9:25 PM

The downloads are adding up now. Good to see them moving again. Thank you.

Keywords | Add / Fix

What's this? Clicking on it goes back to the home page...

85. posted by bosela, Jan 12, 2008 4:00 PM

I have not seen the level of downloads returning to pre-problem levels yet. Granted it is the weekend when demand drops quite a bit, but I suspect something may still be awry.

This may be noted elsewhere, but I have never seen the definition of exactly what constitutes a download here at SXC. Is every viewing of a full sized image a download or does the user's action to save the image on their computer constitute the download.

86. posted by bosela, Jan 12, 2008 4:33 PM

I have been able to add a forum thread to my favorites, but I have not been able to delete the one that appeared in my list of favorites initially. When I click on the red "x", I am taken to the site home page. Upon returning to the forums page, the item I tried to delete is still listed as a favorite.

I have noticed the archive access provided in the Blog Toolbox. Are we limited to displaying one month’s activity at a time? Is there a means of searching the blog activity by key word or user? If there is search functionality, it would be very useful if we could search all previous blog activity.

It may just be that I am blind to the obvious, but I'm still having difficulty in finding the means to search the forums. I can obtain "New Posts” in threads created by any user by playing around with rss feeds by playing around with some of the links provided like this:

I can't imagine that this is the forum search capability that has been mentioned in our recent discussions. Where can I find the mechanism provided to search the forums?

87. posted by admin, Jan 12, 2008 5:20 PM

Users will be able to add keywords to badly keyworded images. It's not done yet.

A download is when someone clicks on "Download" and the original file appears in the browser. Saving an image from a browser window cannot be tracked.

Deleting favourite topics is not done yet.

There's no blog search. You can view someone's blog if you go to their profiles.

You are indeed blind, there's a Search tab at the forums right next to New topic. ;)

Congrats for ditching the ratings concept. Roll on genuine feedback.

My suggestion is to provide the vector extensions in EPS, as StockXpert.

FTP upload! yay..

My suggestion is to provide the vector extensions in EPS, as StockXpert.

I'll second that! and even upload some :)

104. posted by bosela, Jan 15, 2008 11:53 PM

I have not seen any substantial change in the number of downloads since the problem was reported as being corrected.

I've documented the average daily download totals that I have observed for November, 1st Half of December, 2nd Half of December, and the first two weeks of January in the following thread: p=1

My post was in response to fishmonk making a similar observation.

105. posted by admin, Jan 16, 2008 3:20 AM

You can see for yourself that the download counter works right if you create another account and do some test downloads...

January is always the slowest month...

106. posted by bosela, Jan 16, 2008 5:12 PM

I'm sure that January is slow and one member's experience is no basis for generalization, but in the interest of sharing raw data I offer the following comparison.

For the first 15 days of January 2007 I had close to 21 downloads per picture. For the same period of January 2008 I had close to 11 downloads per picture.

It is impossible for me to draw any conclusion regarding the reasons for the difference, but it is dramatic.

Where can I find out more about the use of the EXIF data reader?

115. posted by jaylopez, Jan 18, 2008 10:42 PM

EXIF data would be a useful tool to newbies in digital photography (like myself). I read in an online post that it won't work with older model of digital cameras. true???

anyways, thanks to Peter (admin) for these wonderful updates!!!

116. posted by admin, Jan 19, 2008 1:21 AM

EXIF data will be displayed on the preview pages. It's not done yet, but I already have the database ready.

Uummm... I'm not sure what you mean, this standard was introduced a very long time ago...

I noticed though that different camera makers store data in different ways... Reading the data is one thing, interpreting it is another... :)

Now that we have the same size image that we see on the Photo Details page by moving the cursor over the thumbnail; it would be helpful to go directly to the full-sized image when clicking on the thumbnail. The title of the picture could be made the link to the Photo Details page.

That would eliminate an unnecessary step prior to seeing the full-sized image which we can now judge based on the cursor slide over. People would still be able to access the information on the Photo Details page by clicking on the Title.

If there is some pragmatic reason to reverse the links, and make the Thumbnail Title the link to the full-sized image while keeping the thumbnail linked to the Photo Details; that would still allow people to expedited their navigation through the web site.

Just a thought:

I think it would be great to be able to store the favorite users in the lightboxes together with some personal comments.
Something like: "great macros","check again","great tutorials" and so on (I think each one would place his/her own comments, be it public or private).

And it would be nice, to be able to make several lists, so that the 30 users limit should not be a discomfort.

The lightbox became lightboxes, which is great and very useful. Thank you for that! I think it would be great to have the same with favorite users list.

I currently do this with the help of firefox addon ZOTERO. The bad thing is that I have it at home and is hard to take it at work too. Instead if it's online it's available everywhere I go. Maybe it could, also, be shared.

Sorry, if this creates any trouble.

The changed scared me at first, I didn't know what was going on! The only thing I've really noticed so far is the hover capability when searching images and in the menu.

For those who don't care for the changes, maybe you could turn them off by disabling Javascript for the site?

This would keep track of images and their respective authors, for later, in asking for their consent.

It seems like it should appear there as one of the most recent blogs?

130. posted by florinf, Jan 27, 2008 9:10 PM

@130 (bosela)

It's in the tutorials page. I have seen it there.

It depends on what the author chooses at the bottom of the blog setup. It can be a general blog or a tutorial (for software or equipment).

131. posted by bosela, Jan 27, 2008 10:18 PM

The Blog Community page should highlight all blogs. Tutorials are a subset of blogs, but they are not differentiated within our account menu. It would be nice to see the efforts of everyone attempting to contribute their perspective and knowledge in one place.

It is also great to be able to see only those categorized as tutorials, as we are able to do.

I believe that this has come up in the past and is worthy of consideration for this round of changes or the next.

I think would like to see the contributors be allowed to present their gallery in their favorite order. One way to accomplish that would be to create a new variable for each photo that reflects the "Submitters" ranking. This would would allow the photographer or artist to present their portfolio in the sequence that he or she would like them to be viewed.

You could accomplish this with a 5 digit numeric code that the submitter could assign which could be one of the sort options for an individuals gallery. I would like this to be the default sequence that is presented when the "View Gallery" link is selected from the User's Profile page.

There may be better ways to accomplish the same goal, but I would love to see how other contributors rank their galleries.

your site is great.
i found very interesting the way users can interact here through login, starting topics, posting comments, having their own blogs and also access to ftp for uploads.
i'm up to make a website for a research group and this kind of feature would be perfect for me, but i dont know much about the issue. Is it too complex to add in the website [forum, blogs, profiles and ftp?]
Where can i read something more about it?
thank you

The site is really looking good and working great now with all the changes, and FTP upload seems to be heaps more stable since the server upgrade. Thanks guys.

I have one small suggestion which is probably pretty easy to implement.

I am a bit of a stats junkie, and thought that it might be cool if on the front page in the quick stats, we could see the total number of users on SXC (i.e. the number of logins in the database, not the number of currently connected users). Also interesting would be the number of uploaders in total so we can keep a watch on its growth.

I noticed that you posted on 6 December about record breaking traffic, so I imagine that you are monitoring hit stats. Would it be possible to see this type of info in the quick stats too. i.e. the number of hits in the past day or week or month.

Just some suggestions, but I do love all the changes.

love the new updates. multiple lightboxes are awesome. one problem though is moving an image from one lightbox to another? i have duplicate images in different lightboxes as i can't move between each one while I'm searching, and i forget if i have already added it. that's my only query, otherwise its great!

162. posted by MiRi64, May 2, 2008 6:59 AM

I've got another idea, hopefully interesting:

You have certainly heard of the famous video wall at Google HQ where everybody can see, which search queries are currently flying round the globe. Why not have something like a frequently updated ticker or box which shows, what SXC-users are currently searching for - from around the globe as well - (only the keywords on photo-searches), e.g.

1.) SXCs Hot Search Phrases - Currently searched photos (the last 10 or 20, rather frequently updated) and

2.) SXCs Most Wanted (the top 100 search phrases of the last week, or month)

All search phrases (Keywords) should be linked to their respective search result and should be followed by the number of resulting photos (in brackets).

I believe it would be very interesting for photographers to see, if "their" keywords are much looked after and it would also be nice to get the chance to easily see which keywords are searched for quite often and still show only a few results. This might give photographers quite a lot of cues, what kind of photos the users are looking for, which are not too well covered in the database already.

Additionally it would be fine to get some hints, at least of the roundabout number, how many similar search requests it takes for a single keyword to make it into the top 100. This would make clear how great the need is to get more photos on specific subjects.

If this wouldn't cost too much effort (and server/site performance) to realise I have the feeling that it could become a great hit among our users.

163. posted by bosela, May 24, 2008 8:06 PM

This is another suggestion relating to making more information available, in the event that this blog is still being monitored.

I light of the difficulty in generating comments in general and specifically comments relating to Blogs, it would be great to see a count kept and displayed that indicates how many times people have invoked the

It would be nice if there was way to browse through a complete list of lightboxes? It would be even better to be able to sort them by different variables; like date created, title, or various key words that the creator would assign.

When I go to the Lightboxes page via the tab on the main page or via the browse/lightboxes menu path, I only find a few lightboxes listed in the "New Lightboxes" area and a keyword search box. This makes it difficult to track what people are doing with lightboxes.
