Maybe others account together with indi23 and Loredana have taken photos from Sxc.
I think we must find and report them!

what can we do about it? can sxc help us.if this is happening i will put written permission on every photo i upload.

9. posted by nkzs, Jan 28, 2008 12:52 PM

Our admin already alerted Fotolia! Hopefully they'll delete those pics. Next time upload your images with minimum resolution (at longest 3000px), so bastards will not steal it. ...I think... :o(

10. posted by duchesssa, Jan 28, 2008 1:49 PM

It's a problem. If we upload all photos with written permission or at low resolution,in the first case they ask the photo for a brochure (for example) and then upload to photolia or ask an hight risolution always for a brochure or a flyer and then sell it quietly. Yesterday I wrote a long email to photolia, but for the moment nobody answer me!

11. posted by admin, Jan 28, 2008 3:49 PM

Fotolia was notified and I hope they will take the pictures down as soon as possible.

I'm not sure what we can do about the person who stole the pics, it depends on where he lives. There are countries where people can get away with everything.

Although this happens every once in a while on all photo sharing sites, you shouldn't be discouraged by it. You help a lot of people and small businesses with your pics and that's the important thing. Don't let a rotten apple spoil the fun.

14. posted by duchesssa, Jan 28, 2008 7:58 PM

Dear Admin, you're rigth, I'm not discourage by this situation, but I think that's is a very good thing share our photo, in the reason of open source, and it's a shame that somebody take advantage from us. However is well what finish well!

SXC forever!!!

I also agree. I also do not think that people should start asking for permission to download their pictures. I understand if you already do but it really makes life a lot easier for us designers if we don't have to wait for permission. Thanks for looking out for everyones pictures!!!!!!!

Two things I've learned about the internet:
1. If you don't want it stolen don't put on the net!
2. If you don't want your name to appear in everyone's emails, including your own, don't use outlook express addressbook!

I use alot of images for various designs, I always try to contact the owner but that's just me. But I've also noticed that alot of times they don't even answer their emails.
If i recall correctly even the sxc email has a statement that says the receiver may or may not get the email. I personally have contacted alot of people from this site with no reply,
so then you figure what's the use?!

I believe it's a personal problem. I have the same problem with my designs and things and have come to the understanding that I can't tell the entire world it's absolutely free then place
restrictions all over it because I don't like the results others get from my work! (It just makes me jealous sometimes!)
So what's the answer I'd really like to know myself???

Hi, I can understand your concern about people stealing your photos. I love sxc and have been using this site for a couple years now. I am a Web Designer. I have emailed several people here without ever getting any response, so I have not used their photos. However, I have used some photos and have always wondered if I am alright with what I do with them. Could you please tell me if my site is OK?

All I do is take the photo and add a monthly calender to it. That is basically all that my site is, just desktops. I try to list the photographer with the photo too to give them credit. I have also tried to use a lot of my photos or photos of friends who have given me permission. I would realy like to know if what I do is in accordance with the terms and conditions.

The site is: www.truelinor.com .

I have also started a Featured Photographer article, which a photographer friend of mine has graciously answered my interview questions. I would love to interview some of the photographers here if I could get in contact with them.

Thanks and I will be glad to take down any pictures that I shouldn't have up there. Please let me know, OK? Thanks again!

Dear Tru, I've visited your site and I think it's allrigth. You have used the photos for calendary, it's an use like another. The robber had downloaded the photos from SXC and then they sold it in other sites. The Sxc ideology is to offer professional photos but free, to help the smalles business, cause the professional photos usually cost a lot. So it's very incorrect to steal and sell our photo. It's real, somebody don't answer to the mail request, and it's real that other people don't ask anything and don't credit the potographer. This is life, we cannot figth everything. But I love this site and his message, and I hope that people makes a good use of our illustrations,

I once received an advertising e-mail with one of my pictures in it.

It was a picture that I had asked to be notified of commercial use.

What made me upset was the lack of respect for the person providing the free image (me). I would have been happy with a simple "thanks using it here" message or comment.

26. posted by duchesssa, Mar 5, 2008 10:56 AM

I agree with you. It's nice and respectly leave an message and(where is requested) credit the user!

27. posted by trokane, Mar 19, 2008 9:30 PM

I agree that we should continue to use SXC the way it was designed to be used. I'm a designer for a small company and love the quality photos I can get here. Dropping people a "thank you" and crediting them when requested isn't too much to ask.

As for those who steal and resell, we need to act as a community to police and stop their activity whenever possible.

28. posted by truelinor, Mar 31, 2008 6:07 PM

Sorry for taking so long to get back, but I really appreciate getting an answer. I'm glad it's OK, the way I use the photos from here. Thanks a lot!

Is there anyone who would like to be interviewed for my site? How should I go about finding someone?

Thanks again,

I love sxc! Just discovered it a few months ago and allready used some photo's for bookcovers (off course always with the permission of the artist!).

I also want to upload some photo's myself mainly to keep this website alive and growing, just read about the photostealing and was shocked that people are actually selling these photo's! I hope in the future there will be some ways to sue them and let them pay for the possible damage!

Thanx to all the artists that help starting companies like mine with some very nice professional photo's! This week I'll search through my pc to upload some original pictures that I didn't see much so far... but for me its just a hobby, my work is in books :-)

thx again and I wish the sxc artists all the best! (also in fighting the photothiefs, I'll help fighting whenever/wherever I can)
