sxc destroying itself?

posted by christgr, May 19, 2011 6:39 AM — 8 comments

A stream of new rejection rules have come into play - maybe because of the new owners, what do I know.

What's the point of running a community based website and using professional criteria for turning down content?

I can understand the model-release need for juridical reasons, but "artifacting"? Come on, folks, you are destroying the very base of your site: People's will to contribute photos to you.

Continue like this, and you will be another paysite within a couple of years. Just like the one you marked so hard when people search your base.

Contratulations on destroying one of the most useful sites on the web.

SXC is now nothing more than an appendix of - it's here to sell images for istockphoto.
The forum here hasn't been working for months, I keep getting errors. I sent a message to the support weeks ago, no changes. Feels like an almost dead site - I don't even have the motivation to upload new pics, although they're already on my computer.

It's really sad :(

Do you have another site to recommend instead? I work idealistically in the NGO/not-for-profit-area and have no budget for images

I, too, have submitted images only for them to reject them for artificating as well. What ticks me off most is that the images I provide are nice, clean, useable stock images, and all I find on here is crap. People just uploading same ol boring stuff. I uploaded an illustrator vector image background turned into a .jpg... it got dissed! saying, it's not an adequate background... meaning? No one will use it. OH COME ON!! I've seen really BAD images uploaded. Whateva............ been nice while it lasted.

But hmm i only upload to make myself feel like ive completed a mission, take on camera, put on pc, next step is to send to space woohhohoo i know how to work my pc feeling burst through my body :D im happy, even if i send my photos as emails to fake adresses, my job is done :D

Forum is completely dead.

Moderators obviously have a conflict of interest - having great free images mean less sales at their pay sites.

This blog is turning into a collection of spam links.

Hope you guys got your money's worth by ruining this place. Another will take its place. I use morguefile for commercial jobs and deviantart has a ton of great stock (although each artist has their own license rules there)

It would be really useful to get some of the crew's comments on this.

I guess, unfortunately, that the original passionados of the have sold out and left for other ventures - and thus the love for the site is gone.

Very disappointing.

The original passionados for SXC didn't sell out. The original SXC admins were removed without notice and replace with who knows what. The old guard saw what was happening to SXC and started up a new free stock site: rgbstock is run along the same lines as the pre-iStock SXC. rgbstock is growing exponentially and has attracted the interest of sites like Shutterstock and the new SXP replacement, stockfresh. Why don't you go and check them out?
