The boom of internet social media has led many small businesses to focus their marketing efforts online. While the internet is undoubtedly a powerful marketing tool, offline marketing tools as simple as word-of-mouth and retail signage will also have a great impact on your small business.

It is essential for business, especially small businesses, to achieve the right combination of online & offline marketing to create a well rounded customer base. One of the most effective offline marketing tools are signs. A well designed sign placed strategically in the right location, for example vehicle or car signage in heavy traffic areas such as CBD's, will not only give your small business maximum exposure but leave a positive and memorable impression on your potential customers. Although many small businesses may be inclined to design their own signs it is usually in their best interest to hire a graphic designer or go to a graphic design company, as your sign is often the first point of contact for many customers

Online, the most effective way to market your small business is through your website, therefore your website's presence on the internet it is very important. Utilising internet marketing tools such as social media, SEO and display advertising will help increase the visibility of your website on the internet. When designing a website for your small business it is important to consider your overall marketing strategy such as who are your target customers and what is your brand image, consulting a online or web marketer can help you figure these things out.

One of the most important marketing aspects you should consider as a business both online and offline is branding. Your brand could be the be all and end all of your business, a business brand covers a variety of features; logo design, concept design, audio and sound branding are just to name a few. Putting effort into designing your brand will not only give your business a positive image but will also add value to your small business as it continues to grow. However, before you get carried away with deciding colour palettes for your brand, the first thing you should do is ensure your brand is consistent both online and offline. Make sure your brand is sending the same message in every marketing tool you employ.

When considering marketing options for your small business it is important to look at both online and offline tools, and that your offline and online marketing strategy are consistent with each other.
