Why do people download?

posted by vancanjay, Mar 16, 2006 5:19 AM — 5 comments

While on a drive today I was wondering if most people actually value the images they get from here. I know there are many people who do - but I was thinking today of a supermarket sample station where someone is handing out random samples of a new chocolate dessert or thirst quenching juice. I would imagine many people who take the samples don't really want them, just grab them cause' they are eye candy and get their belly's excited.
Whenever you give something away, you can only hope it goes to a good home with thankful folks.

Part of what gets me on this kick is the amazement of how I can have SIXTEEN THOUSAND downloads (which I realize is not that much) and don't know what most people even think of my photos. I guess it's like having your work up in an international photography gallery with millions of visitors. Every so often one of the visitors takes a postcard of your work. Even less frequently (but very special indeed) some spend the time to write a note in your comment book...

Saludos.

I agree. While I don't have near the downloads you do (over 4000 today), I wonder where they all go? Out of my downloads I have a few folks who have been courtious enough to ask permission to use them. Out of those, I do get the joy of seeing my work on web sites or on packaging on the other side of the globe.

One thing that encourages me to continue with the craft of photography is the sheer number of downloads... it tells me that of my better shots, they must be pretty good.

Keep shooting!

I discovered the site through a work collegue. We work in a Students' Union and dealing with the advertising side of things. I've used the site many times and find an amazing tool to help me work. So thats why I download from here, although every now and then I see some really eye candy and have to download it just to stare at it!

What do you think about people who play at sites like photoshopfaceoff.com and photoshopcontest.com. They need great sources to work with. Me myself moderator at photoshopfaceoff often come here to look for sources.
