How to get there:

When logged in, click on "My account"

In the "Quick links" box click on the word "blog" in the sentence "Add posts to your blog".

In the grey table head "Blog posts" you can either add a new post or upload one or more JPG files by following the instructions.

1. Upload only JPG files! Restrictions:
"Maximum file size: 200 kbytes, maximum width: 378 pixels.
Allowed characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, -, _ and .
Filenames are converted to lowercase."

2. Type some text in Wordpad or any other simple texteditor (in case something goes wrong, i.e. you get logged off when creating longer posts, you don't have to retype all the valuable stuff ;-)
You need a title, some teaser text and the main text.

3. Copy and paste the text into the appropriate boxes (* Title - * Lead - * Post)

4. You can now click on the "submit" button to preview your text. Your text will not being submitted instantly. By the first click on the "submit" button, you will be taken to a preview first. If everything looks fine, you can check the "Preview OK, update it!" box and submit the whole thingy.

5. Format your text. You can see some hints in the "Posting info" box on the right hand side of the page.

Notice: In the following examples, the brackets [ and ] are replaced by | pipes.

Simply copy and paste the tags you want to use, i.e. to make some words look bold.
|b|This text is BOLD|/b|. |i|This text is ITALIC|/i|. Keep in mind, that the whole text between an opening tag like |b| and a closing tag |/b| will be formatted that way.

Embedding images:

There are 2 ways of embedding images into your post:

1. Add an uploaded image |imgsl='testfile.jpg'| - where "imgsl" means left aligned (default, the text stands right from the image) and "imgsr" means right aligned (in this case the text stands left from the image.)
Notice: Be sure to write the name of the file correctly, following the above mentioned restrictions. You can see the names of the uploaded files in the right box.

2. Add an external image |imgl=''|
Besides JPG files, also BMP, GIF and PNG files are allowed.
Notice: In some cases the external server refuses and blocks external linking of image files, so make sure that the pics appear by clicking "submit" to preview the blog.

Beware! In most cases you'll have to insert blank lines behind the image tags, if you want to show your text underneath the image and not aligned left or right of the pic.

Always preview the blog and see, if it fits. When using bigger images, you'll have to insert 20 or more blank lines. There's an exception to that rule: If the image is wide enough to fill the table, the text will automatically wrap underneath the image. (Example below)

This text starts right of the image.

This text starts underneath the image.

External links:

Unlike in the forums, plain URLs are not automatically formatted as links. So you have to use the |url='address'| tag, followed by a text you want to make a link (or the whole URL itself) and the closing tag |/url|

If you want to put a link on an image, just combine the |url| and the |img| tags: start and end with the URL tags and place the image tags in between them like in the example below:

This works for both uploaded and external images.

You can download a screenshot of the source code of this blog here:

I also uploaded a plain text file, where you can see the source code:

Notice: If you want your blog to appear on the frontpage of SXC, notice the admins to evaluate your posts by checking "Recommend for front page"
You can also check this box afterwards by editing your blog. The box will appear and ask you again. ;-)

Have phun!

You star bar! You're great Norm! I think I got the hang of it, did a quick tutorial there.. the only thing thats bugging me is.. you know when you have the whole thing done and you click preview, and then you might make changes and you want to preview it AGAIN before sending it.. is that possible??

1: Yah, sure. As long as you don't use that checkbox "Preview OK, update it!" you can click the submit button to preview your blog.

The name of the button is indeed a bit misleading. It should be renamed to "preview" unless you checked that box.
