We wuz robbed!

The article by Times' reporter Eric A. Taub discusses at length the boom in stock photography microsales, and the threat they've presented to larger, more commercial stock agencies. It's a well-written piece, and covers the landscape adequately for novices or those not in the business.

But, alas, it fails to mention either SXC or SXP. Instead, it refers to Shutterstock, Big Stock Photo, Fotolia, Dreamstime, and iStock Photo.

There is no justice. New York Times, 2007-06-05.

The photos in the articles show the photographers in well equipped studios taking shots using no tripod or any stabilizing equipment. I wonder if the photographers taking the photos of the photographers were using tripods.

Seems like a lot of work and equipment expenses to take stock photos for pennies on the download. I'm happy to receive my funds from Social Security Disability and take photos I can distribute freely with no regard for where they end up. Comments, ratings and download numbers are my reward and motivation. Community support on sxc is irreplaceable. ~Cris

@1: Hear, hear, Cris. I can't agree more on the value of SXC.

I am an amature photographer and it is merely a hobby. Thankfully I have a job so do not ever intend to sell my photos. Mostly they are nature shots and anyone can use them. This is the only stock photo place I have ever visited and I like it because I get various comments to help me improve on my pictures. It is unfortunate the SXC was not commented on in the article...

We know that the medias are moving, we see the example of music. I believe that he has market for all, each one with its public. The photographer must be happy with its work, either it in the SXC, StockPhoto, Getty, etc.

To each new work I search images first in the SXC, later in the StockPhoto, and thus until finding an image that if adjusts to the project.
