The String Tripod

posted by josecarli, May 20, 2008 11:05 PM — 10 comments

I recently bought a new camera (Canon S5IS) with a 12x zoom and I am having difficulty with focusing, specially at higher zoom.

The main reason for this is my shaking hands.

So, I googled for help and came accross this incredibly simple "string tripod", which is nothing more than a string with which you link your feet to your camera and use it as a stabilizer.

Amazingly simple, cheap and very, very helpful for those who do not have such a steady hand and do not want to carry a tripod everywhere.

Obviously not a "true tripod", but very helpful anyway.

Hope it may help someone like it did to me.

That's a great idea. I'll have to give it a try. I have taken 2 college photography courses, and I don't recall anyone mentioning this. If it works well I'll be sure to pass the idea along next semester.

I've used one of those for a while now... so simple to make, simple to carry with you, and so effective.

This is a great technique, I originally learned about it in a video production class and have applied it to my still photography as well.

It's been a while since I last visited my own post.

The video atirage places a link to is really awesome.

It is impossible to illustrate the idea in a better way than that.

Thanks.
