Lessons I've learnt today

posted by debsch, Nov 19, 2006 11:50 PM — 3 comments

First I have to let you know that unfortunately I don't use photoshop as I'm from a webdesign background and was introduced to fireworks years ago and haven't gone back since.

Second is that the subject to be isolated was a pair of old green canvas shoes.

I learned that the Neat Image (to remove noise) auto profile doesn't work well once the object is isolated and on top of a clean white background. So I had to filter the photo for noise first before manipulating it instead of afterwards like I usually do.

I also learned that the shoes didn't look right with their original shadow, and they didn't look right without a shadow. I had to give them a new shadow, based on the shape of the original.

I've uploaded three photos: the original pair of shoes on wooden floor, the isolated shoes still with their original colour, and the final result, a pair of black and white shoes on a white background.

They're now in my gallery and I'd like to know if I've done an OK job of them. I'll be happy with OK since it's my first attempt. Helpful criticism would be good too.

And this is my first BLOG!

Cheers - I reviewed the photo's and the images that you "added a new shadow" - you need to lighten the shadow...to medium gray ... the shadow is black and looks just like it was added...that is the take I get on the photo's...the black and white looks good otherwise...from my view point.

Yes, with hindsight, a lighter shadow would be much better. Have learnt a bit from this experience. Thanks for the comment!
