»  Menehune Ditch Sign
Near Waimea (on the Hawaiian island of Kauai), there is a historic irrigation ditch called "Kīkīaola," but which is more commonly known as the "Menehune Ditch." In Hawaiian mythology, the Menehune are said to be an ancient people, sometimes described as dwarves in size, who live unseen in the deep forests and hidden valleys of the Hawaiian Islands. They are said to be superb craftspeople ... and they are said to have built this irrigation canal. One must assume, however, that they did not build this unfortunate sign.
