Don't know whether ferns like this sprout from trees in other parts of the word, but it's fairly common in Florida. Liked the look of them against the rough bark of the tree anyway.

"It is called resurrection fern. It dries up and looks dead in drought or dry times, then springs back green when it rains. It grows in the deep south, in Texas as well. It most normally grows on top of large horizontal branches of old oak trees."
