The majestic Buland Darwaza is the awe-ispiring entrance to Fatehpur Sikhri. The English translation of "Bulund Darwaza" is "High Door". True to its name the Darwaza rises to a height of 40 metres above the ground, making it the highest gateway in the world. It was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar to commemorate his victory over Khandesh (Gujarat ) in 1573.
