Dense deciduous Shrub, 1-4m, with spiny Branches. leave oval, dull green, toothed. Flowers white, 10-15mm, solitary, but dense on Branches, appearing before the leaves. Fruit rounded, 10-15mm, black with a bluish bloom, acid tasting. Habitat: Woodland, Shrub and Hedgerows, often forming dense and extensive Thickets. Flowering Season: March-May. Distribution: Throughout Europe, except the far Western and Northern Areas. This is one of the first flowering Shrubs in Spring. The Species is known as Herbal Medicine.
