The Sand Island petroglyph site is one of the easily accessible rock art sites in southeastern Utah. Today, a fence keeps would-be artists from carving anymore initials over the ancient symbols from centuries ago. Numerous sites and other evidence show that the Anasazi and Fremont culture had a larger population in southern Utah hundreds of years ago than there is today.
