Canada geese in Wascana Lake in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Wascana Lake is in Wascana Centre, which is a geographic area covering 930 hectares of which 120 hectares is water, namely Wascana Lake and its tributaries. Wascana Lake is divided into two zones separated by the Broad Street Bridge. In the lower or western lake, the focus is on recreation. In the upper or eastern lake, the focus is on wildlife habitat and education, and more gentle forms of water-based recreation. The combined volume of water in both sections of the lake is approximately 2.5 billion litres. Wascana Lake is situated directly under a major North American flyway for migrating waterfowl, and is a resting place for them on their way to and from northern nesting grounds. Canada geese are among the first birds to arrive in the spring and last to leave as winter returns, and usually begin their journey south when the ground starts to freeze in the fall.
