These steps are located at one end of a 'Great Walk' which runs up to a mountain top ridge and then along the top of the ridge for several km before descending again nearer to the city of Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan. At one stage people were encouraged by the late President for life, Saparmurat Nyazov (Turkmenbashi) to take this walk regularly. On the day when this photograph was taken, at 46 degrees C, it was too hot to consider it steps climb great Steps
