In Japan during the summer, a stage is often set up and a taiko drummer beats out a rhythm as kimono-clad dancers (usually old ladies) dance in a circle. Because this always happens in the summer, I guess it is a symbol of summer. It happens around the Obon holidays. I thought we should have some clipart to represent that on openclipart.org so I made this one here obon bonodori summer Bonodori - Summer in Japan
I thought that some people might want a more abstract representation of 'grave visiting' (hakamairi) done here in Japan. So I remixed my original image to just show the bucket (used to wash the grave) and the flowers, wrapped in paper, ready to be placed at the grave. I didn't include any incense though. Hope you can use it bucket flowers pail Hakamairi - Bucket and Flowers
During the "Obon holidays" here in Japan, one of the things that people do is go wash the family grave. It's a ritual, with a bucket and a scoop to pour water over it. I thought there should be someway to symbolize this for everyone, so I spent way too long drawing this clipart for anyone who would want to use this on openclipart.org or whatever. I'm not sure how much use this will be to anyone, but providing it anyway hakamairi obon japan Hakamairi - Grave visiting
