The Isted Lion was placed on the parish churchyard in Flensburg in 1860 as a memorial of the battle of Isted in 1850 during the 1849 - 1852 war between Denmark and the Germans. In 1864 after the 1864 war Preussen transported the Lion to Berlin. Aften WW II the Americans returned the Lion to Denmark. Today you find the Lion in Copenhagen in fron of the Army Arsenal Museum. King Harald the Bluetooth big runic stone c. 965 AD – Denmark’s “birth certificate” and The runic stone which King Gorm the Old erected in memory of his wife, Queen Thyra, is from the mid 10th century The Jelling monuments were registered on the World Heritage List because of the unique historical importance of the site. At Jelling you meet the 10th century Viking King, Gorm den Gamle (Gorm the Old) who died in 959 and Queen Thyra as well as their son Harald Blåtand (Harald Bluetooth) who died in around year 987. The burial mounds, the runic stones and the parish church are markable example of Nordic pagan culture and illustrate an important role in the history of the area, a unique complex of religious and political manifestations and early Christianity in Scandinavia in the 10th century. The monuments consist of the two runic stones, the medieval parish church and the two burial mounds. The monuments reflect the transition from paganism to Christianity, and are referred to as Denmark’s birth certificate, as one of the runic stones carries the oldest inscription referring to Denmark the country and its people “the Danes”. Good old fashioned cannons at Nyborg Slot. The Royal castle of Nyborg was founded in the 12th century as part of the fortifications around Great Belt. Due to its central location the castle was, for more than 200 years, the site of the so-called Danehof assemblies where the King of Denmark and the most most powerful men of Denmark gathered. King Zygmunt Column was in 1644. It is one of Warsaw's most famous landmarks and one of the oldest secular monuments in northern Europe. The column and statue commemorate King Zygmunt III Waza, who moved Poland's capital from Krakow to Warsaw. The column was constructed between 1643 and 1644 on the orders of Zygmunt's son and successor, King Wladyslaw IV Vasa. It was designed by the Italian architect Constantino Tencalla and the sculptor Clemente Molli. The cast was done by Daniel Tym. Lyngby Fort was armed with 4 long and 3 short 15 cm. cannons apart from smaller cannons (2 x 75 mm and 4 x 47 mm), and machine guns. 200 soldiers manned the fort. The outer fortification of Copenhagen i the eldest still existing complete Capital City fortification in the world. The student cap is made of linen with a black brim and is supplied with a coloured band, that varies after which exam (upper secondary level education) it represents, and a cockade with a Dannebrog cross or other badge. The housing area Nyboder, Copenhagen was established from 1631 by King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway as a living area for the sailors of the Danish Navy. 200 houses was build. Even today only members of the Danish armed forces and their families live in Nyboder. In front of Nyboder is the Admiral Edouard Suenson memorial.
