The Minar-e-Pakistan (Urdu: مينارِ پاكستان; Mīnār-ĕ Pākistān) is a tall concrete unique minaret in Iqbal Park in Lahore, Pakistan. It's height is about 198.5 feet. The name can be translated as Minaret of Pakistan, Pakistan Tower or Pakistan Column. This is the site where in 1940, seven years before the formation of Pakistan, the Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution now the Pakistan Resolution in which the need for a separate homeland for the Muslims from the Empire of India under foreign rule was originally recognised. The Minar-e-Pakistan was designed by Murad Khan, a Turkish architect. The base of the tower is raised approximately four metres from the ground. It rises up to approximately 13 metres, forming a sculpted, flower-like base. From this point it tapers as it rises. The base platform is shaped like a five-pointed star and it encloses crescent shaped pools. The overall height of the monument is approximately sixty metres. It is constructed of reinforced concrete, with the floors and walls rendered in stone and marble. Now it is officially recognized as the National Monument of Pakistan. The Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan, is famous for its extensive faience tile work. It has been described as ' a mole on the cheek of Lahore'. It was built in seven years, starting around 1634-1635 A.D., during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. It was built by Shaikh Ilam-ud-din Ansari, a native of Chiniot, who rose to be the court physician to Shah Jahan and later, the Governor of Lahore. He was commonly known as Wazir Khan. Khewra Salt Mines (world's 2nd largest)is situated at the distance of 160 km from Islamabad and 260 km from Lahore in Tehsil Pind Dadan Khan District Jhelum. It has easy approach via Lahore - Islamabad Motorway through Lilla Interchange. Discovery of Rock Salt dates back to days of Alexander the great. It was in the year 1872, when scientific mining operation started under the British rule. Prior to annexation of Punjab by the British Empire in the year 1849, the salt mines in the province were owned and operated by the Janjua Rajas, and after its annexation, the British Government took over the administration of these mines. Centuries ago, salt was take out at these mines from the out-crops of the salt seams exposed to the surface of the hill by those who were living in its vicinity. Dr. Warth, a renowned Mining Engineer of UK, laid out the main tunnel at ground level in 1872 to have an easy and direct approach to salt deposits. The new system introduced by Dr. Warth is still in-vogue. There are 19 levels at present in the Khewra Mine with the systematic workings. Lahore wildlife safari park is a new addition to city attractions. It is little far(25km) from the city center and about 10km from Thokar Niaz Baig at Raiwind Road. Although it is no match to African safaris but at least something is better than nothing. | | There are lots of varieties of animals but not a very impressive collection though. Just a few typical zoo animals. However, the highlight of whole park is the Lions and Tigers section, with a drive-through. O YES! a drive-through.
